Good Morning crew of the Vilma B., I hope the breakfast and the fuel were pick me ups while staying in Port O'Connor, Tx. I have enjoyed your website and the videos you gave me have already been put into good use , 1). The geography teacher at Calhoun high school 2). The second is being handed around Port O'Connor. Safety is paramount on the water, I am glad to see you are cautious , I didn't have time to get as much info as your journey deserved. My company owns four rescue boats and we see these tragedies also. safe sailing .

Hello! I just passed a floating neutrino in the intracoastal waterway in Pt. Bolivar Tx.

I was wondering where it was heading etc...

My only regret was, due to time constraints, I was unable to tie up and visit with the crew.

Thanks!

Spotted your craft with the big URL banner in New Orleans and was utterly mystified. Remembered to check your web site once I got home to California and must say I am very surprised at who you are and what you're up to. Also very impressed. Haven't finished checking your site but wanted to weigh in while I'm on this page. Finally I'll say that the caliber of your writing is much higher than that found on so many web pages. Good luck in your travels! ~Beth

This person has no in sight on what life is all about, sorry he is unhappy with his life!!!

the comment below is not about lower manhattan it is about himself.

Comments

While I sympathize with Balazs loss of his green card, cat, father's ashes, etc., it must be said that, for residents of lower Manhattan, the rafts were an eyesore and detracted from the increasing beauty of the Hudson waterfront. Those rafts looked like floating trash!

Hi guys,

Saw ya'll today[10-27-00] around mile 164 on the lower miss. today. Thought ya'll were a bunch of nuts. Then I noticed that everyone was wearing lifejackets. That in itself raised my opinion a couple of notches. You'd be surprised at the things that we have seen coming down the river and how much danger people don't realize that they put themselves in. Saw the website advertised on the rafts and came to check it out. Pretty impressive stuff. Good luck with the rest of the voyage. Hope everything works out for ya'll. Hi  there Captain and friends. I'm in New Zealand planning to build a home-raft. I'm wondering, did you have any trouble with seweage regulations? My local harbour district requires that all vessels have onboard tanks for sewerage, and that no sewerage may be dumped into the harbour. So that is a problem. Do you have experience with rules like this? What do you do when you encounter such problems? From mcewan@eudoramail.com

What's Happening with the Town Hall?
After conducting a thorough investigation of the applicable laws, NY Working Waterfront Association, together with Rutgers University Law Clinic, are preparing papers which they will soon present to the U.S. Dept. of Justice, requesting a federal investigation of HRPT's conduct in this incident. They have also received letters of support from a number of elected officials of New York, which will accompany the request for investigation. We are hopeful that the true legal status of all vessels anchored in New York City waters will be affirmed through this process. We realize that this is a long and slow process, but feel it is vital to address the big issues involved, and not just the loss of our own vessels. Capt. Betsy for the Floating Neutrinos

In response to the comments of May 17, asking if we are going to do something about the removal, without notice or due process, of our vessels from the anchorage near Pier 25 in Manhattan:

We, together with the Working Waterfront Association of NYC and others, are presently investigating the legalities of the situation, and what steps to take in order to make an appropriate response. We were anchored in waters that are under Federal Jurisdiction, and both the Coast Guard and the Army Corps of Engineers have officially stated that due process was not followed in this case. For more information, please see our page, Demise of the Town Hall, which is being continually updated as further information becomes available and our responses unfold; and the NY Daily News article of May 21

After spending several years on the Mississippi river, we have become accustomed
to seeing many strange things. But today, when we saw your raft going by
(leaving Lake Pepin as it narrows back into the channel)we thought this will be
one we'll remember. Noting your speed with that little outboard, I was happy
for you that you are travelling in a downstream direction. And thanks to your
vessel markings and your web site, we now know what and who went by. And be
assured we are proud to have been able to see you personally. We wish you the
best of luck on your voyage. And remember to keep the red bouys on your left
going downstream. Those wingdams can ruin your day.

Best Regards, and Have a Safe Trip!!

Upon reading the information regarding the demise of those two rafts, I am again reminded of how the general mood of our governing bodies has become one of a police-state with little regard for personal liberties and rights. If YOU stand by and allow these things to continue, we as a nation will descend into the same situation faced by the people of Europe at the hands of Hitler. History tells us that the methods employed by OUR governement are identical to those histoically used by tyrants. Pissed? Get off your ass and do something!!!

I am inspired and thrilled. Yes, that guy and his girlfriend in France who said "There's still hope after all," were dead-on accurate. I wish more people knew about you and your trip. The only reason I learned about  you was because I wanted to build a raft and float down the nearby Mississippi. I urge you to be careful, though. I'd rather have live heroes than martyrs to
art, and y'all have already acomplished that many times over.
