To protect from the intense summer sun in Port Isabel, a huge tarp-covered
frame was built over the entire building platform. The rafts are tied to a dock belonging
to Billy Kenon, who has generously donated this space for our project. |
 |
The curved parts of the frames are put together first. |
 |
Tony Davis puts finishing touches on the stack of nearly
completed frames while Ed examines the keel |

Ed supervises Connie Hockaday as she works on the keel. |

Dean Kennell helps Ed stack the last of the ribs. |

Ed clarifies a point for Tony as they begin to put the frames in place
along the keel. |

Here you can see the first hull in the water and the second hull under
construction on the platform right next to it. |
 |
After all the frames are in place, the plywood skin will be
fitted over them and then the hull will be filled with foam. |
 |
Tony cuts one of the pieces of recycled foam before putting
it inside the hull. |

All the pieces of recycled foam are in place, prior to pouring the liquid
foam around them. |
 |
Jaclyn Howle mixes the two -part liquid foam with a paddle
attachment on an electric drill. |
 |
Tony pours the mixed foam into the hull. This process is
repeated until the entire hull is filled with a solid block of foam. |
